Christmas golf and lunch
Nine ladies took part in a Christmas game of golf and that number increased to fifteen for the delicious lunch. It was a very enjoyable day - cold but sunny, good food and lots of laughs.

Sportswoman's Dinner 2019
Our King James lady golfers tee up a successful inaugural Sportswoman's Dinner.
A group of lady members pitched a new annual event into Perth's social calendar with a sell out.
The Perth Sportswoman's Dinner saw over 160 ladies entertained by guest speaker Willie Allan MBE in the Salutation Hotel recently.
Moira Lumby, one of the organisers said "We want to encourage ladies to get into golf and join our friendly and sociable club. The evening was a huge success and all the ladies had a fabulous night. We are already getting next year's event planned."
The evening saw many prizes being won with Willie Allan auctioning off everything from golf at Lundin Links, teeth whitening through Caledonian Dental Care to glamping at Greenhill Farm.
Fellow organiser Liz Angus expressed appreciation to local companies "We have had great support from Club Members and our main sponsors The Bathroom Company and G. S. Insurance together with John Gillespie Hairdressing and many more."
The Sportswoman's Dinner follows in the footsteps of King James VI Sportsman's Annual Dinner and these lady golfers have successfully put their ladies dinner on the City's social calendar.

Friendly / Handicap League Matches 2019
FRIENDLY MATCHES
Unfortunately this year we didn’t have any outright wins.
We were extremely lucky with our match against Alyth as it was a lovely
day there while it poured with rain in Perth. We gave it our best effort but
were beaten 2 & 1. Our match against
Perth Ladies was a fun match with mixed teams and agreed a draw due to a misunderstanding
of the rules! It was our turn for Strathmore to come to us, but due to Strathmore
ladies having difficulty moving their gear over the railway bridge we agreed to
go to them. All future matches against Strathmore will be played away and we will
pay for our own food.
Craigie Hill – well what can I say?
Our 2 teams were both beaten on the 13th. Dates for training
days for the return match on home soil to be announced later, possibly a talk
from a sports psychologist… 2020 is going to be the year to take that Craigisle
Trophy back!
HANDICAP LEAGUE
I’m pleased to report that we ended up with a better result this year
than last – with our final placement in Section A 3rd out of 5. Kinross were the overall Handicap League trophy winners 2019.
We got off to a great start with a convincing win at home against
Blairgowrie. The next 2 matches were draws – away at Murrayshall and home
to Alyth. Unfortunately we only won one
game out of 5 in our final match against Muckhart, although this was partly due
to not being able to send a full team. It was late by the time we completed the
18th and so dark we could hardly see our way!
The new draw has been done for next year’s teams with King Jimmy playing
Blairgowrie and Murrayshall again and also Auchterarder and Crieff. The dates selected are earlier in the season
than this year so hopefully your diaries should not be so full. Please be aware
that rescheduling matches due to not having a full team will not be allowed
under the rules – so please put the dates in your diaries when they are
confirmed at the start of 2020.
Thanks again to all the ladies who took part in these matches this
year. Thanks also to Paul for the food for our Friendly home match.

Mixed Open Greensomes
How lucky were we with the weather yesterday for our Mixed Open Greensomes !
27 couples took part, 12 of them Island pairings. Numbers were up on last year - maybe we benefited from those visiting the area for the Solheim Cup.
It was nearly a clean sweep for King Jimmy Members -
Scratch Winners: Moira Lumby & Tam McLaren 79 (beating the Joss's from Carnoustie on the bih, to retain their trophy)
Handicap Winners: Moira Chapman & Neil Fraser 65.6 (22.4) who also won the Lennon Trophy (Best Island Couple)
Runners-up: Sheilah Mitchell (from Market Rasen GC) & Charlie Scrim 68.2 (13.8) bih. Charlie really impressed his partner by holing his tee shot at the 15th !
3rd place: Linda Gray & Gary Sievwright 68.2 (12.8)

Outing to Niddry Castle
It was a fun(?) and interesting day out at Niddry Castle's Tri-am. From our bus driver Graham's expert boot-filling, Iris's melt in the mouth tablet, the blind summits, the 40 or so lost balls, the welcome halfway cake table, the unexpected Volvo hazard....it was certainly a day to remember😉
After we had enjoyed a lovely meal, even though none of us figured in the prizelist (no surprise there), our King Jimmy winners on the day were Iris, Lesley & Moira L.
Thanks to Linda and Karen for organising the day - including the calorie free dessert !
Thanks to Fiona for making up the 'fun' Solheim Cup quiz and to Moira L for taking her car on the day.
Big question - who's Agnes going to arm-twist to return to Niddry to use the 4 Ball Voucher she won !!

Championship Finals Day
What a beautiful afternoon we had for our Ladies Finals Day.
In the Scratch Final Linda Gray, in her first time of trying, played Moira Lumby and came out on top after a very good game to win her first title at King James VI.
The Handicap title was a competition between Fiona Farquharson and Agnes Manattini with Fiona winning that one.
Nice to see lots of ladies out supporting our finalists too.
Congratulations to Linda and Fiona.

Friendly match v Strathmore 15th August
A team of 6 headed to Strathmore for the last friendly of 2019. It was a lovely sunny day on the course with the Strathmore ladies and we all enjoyed our meal in the clubhouse after. Linda M/Iris and Pat/Dot lost their matches and Michelle/Noreen drew. Thanks ladies.
Due to the difficulties experienced by Strathmore ladies in moving their golf gear over the railway bridge earlier in the year they decided that all future matches need to be played at Strathmore.
Handicap League match v Muckhart
Our last Handicap League match this year was played on 14th August at Muckhart. Although this match was rescheduled due to our struggling to put together a team we still could only manage 4 instead of 5 on the night. Talking of night we could hardly see the green by the time we made the 18th and fingers were crossed to stay on the fairway otherwise we probably would never have found the ball! We tried our best but only had one win out of the 5. Thanks to the team of Moira L, Liz and Michelle (can't mention myself).

Friendly match v Craigie Hill 7th July
The annual match for the Craigisle Trophy took place last Sunday, 7th July, this year at Craigie Hill.🏌
There were two greensome matches each resulting in KJVI losing at the 13th hole. So once again Craigie Hill retain the trophy. 🏆
Thanks to Linda M, Liz and Karen for trying their best (I was the other team member) Maybe next year on home turf?...

Handicap League v Alyth
We had a really friendly game with our opposition from Alyth on Saturday. It was so friendly, we ended up drawing the match. So far, that's one win, and two draws in the league - an improvement from last year ! Thanks to Karen, Agnes, Liz & Dot (can't really thank myself) for turning out for the game.

Handicap League Match v Murrayshall
We kept our undefeated run going with a good draw away to Murrayshall today- no thanks to me as I got trounced ! We all enjoyed our day with our friendly and welcoming opposition with most games being closely contested. Thanks to our captain for the day, Karen along with Moira L., Liz and Linda G. who completed the team. We also got to see their new changing rooms and golfer's lounge area !

Ladies Open Tri-Am 16 Jun 2019
Great to see 17 teams turn out for our Open Tri-Am today - even though the weather could have been kinder, it takes more than a clap of thunder or flash of lightning to put us off ! The 'treats' tent at the 10th went down very well - most of us could probably have spent the rest of the afternoon there, but alas we had a game to finish 😋
The scores made it a close-run finish with the victors coming out on top - Sue Hay from Liberton along with our own Liz Angus and Noreen Caie on 147 bih.
In second place also on 147 (bih again !) was Euphan Stewart (Murrayshall) playing with our Linda Gray and Fiona Farquharson. Unfortunately Euphan left before we managed to get her photo!
In 3rd place and still on 147, were our first time visitors from Dunbracken, Shelagh Quinn, Tricia Chillas and Janet Muirhead.
Nearest The Pin was won by our Linda Mailer and Nearest the Line was won by Shona Leighton from Alyth.
Well done to all the prizewinners !
Thanks to everyone who helped with the preparations and assisted on the day - Committee, lady bakers, Dennis Hogg (gazebo puter-upperer), our starters in the shop, greens staff, Paul & his team, Juniors for helping with trolleys and to everyone who donated and bought raffle tickets. Another successful day at King Jimmy's 😃

Par-Tee @ The Island
We had a super day at our Par-Tee @ The Island entertaining 21 of our former lady members (apologies were received from another 20+ members/former members who were disappointed they couldn't make it).
Thanks to our ladies who delved to the back of their cupboards to find 'proper china' teacups for our afternoon tea. Although the cups had to be re-filled on a regular basis cos 'they're not as big as mugs !'
There was a fair bit of nattering going on as our ladies served up the sandwiches (thanks Paul), tasty tit-bits (thanks to our lady bakers) and tea/coffee. Some old photographs were stirring memories from years ago. After we had our fill, we headed out to the putting green to play our 'Solheim Cup'.
The highlight of the target golf was Sheena's hole-in-one - the only one of the afternoon ! Fiona had the best score on the crazy golf with 8 shots to complete the course, with Betty Robertson a close 2nd (she hasn't lost her touch !). No-one knew whether they were playing for Europe or USA in the putting, but I'm glad to say Europe won both games - is that an omen for the real thing in Sept ?!?
Everyone said how much they had enjoyed the afternoon so thanks to all of our ladies who contributed from making/distributing the invitations, helping set up, baking, flower arranging, 'taxi' driving and making the day go smoothly.
Maybe if we do it again in another 20yrs or so, I'll be coming along as a former member myself 👵

Perth Ladies Friendly Match
Our team of 4 headed to the North Inch on Wednesday, 22nd May for our second Friendly match of the season. A different format was decided on from previous occasions with one lady from King Jimmy being paired with one lady from Perth Ladies. As the name suggests it was a friendly afternoon resulting in a draw due to a misunderstanding where different teams scored using different formats! However, it was all good fun, we were warmly welcomed, the food in the bowling club was much enjoyed and the weather was fair. What more could we ask for? Thanks to our team of Moira C, Fiona, Dot and Linda M.

Handicap League Match v Blairgowrie 20 May 2019
Our first Handicap League match of 2019 was at home against Blairgowrie. Although the weather looked threatening, we never did need the umbrellas. After a convincing win over the visitors, it was a quick drink, traybake and dash over the bridge before it was closed at 10pm for repairs.
Thanks to the team of Moira L., Michelle, Dot, Pat & Noreen. Well done and let's hope we can repeat this performance at the next match.

Alyth Friendly Match
Our first Friendly match of the season was played on 2nd May. It was an away game for us at Alyth and the weather forecast was not good. However, we were extremely lucky and it stayed dry the entire time (unlike at home in Perth)!
Thanks to our team of 6 - Agnes, Noreen, Linda M, Michelle, Dot and myself who tried their best, but unfortunately were beaten 2 & 1. It was an enjoyable day - we were made to feel welcome and the food was good. Better luck next year in the return match.

First Fling 29/3/19
It was a case of quality, not quantity today. We had a fab day playing a Texas Scramble with a wee twist and Agnes (who almost didn't make it on time !), Pat & Iris won the Easter Eggs with a 70.4. Runners up Michelle, Pam & Sheena managed to card 75.6 - not enough on the day!
It was a beautiful day out on the course - not only were the balls running, but the trolleys as well. One even managed to tip itself over ! We always manage to have an eventful day😜

Opening Day 23 Mar 2019
What a beautiful day to start the season - weather was bright and dry, course looked great. Thanks to Ian & Tennents for our Prosecco aperitif ! Don't know if that was to blame but there was a fair bit of hilarity around the course from balls out of bounds, balls hitting trees, some people's knees being nearer to the ground than they thought, hip flasks out and about. Thanks to Pam, we also had a little taster of Rhubarb & Raspberry Gin, mmm. We were all ready for our tea by the time we got in tho' - great Steak Pie ! As for the Captain v Vice Captain match (I can't put it off any longer !), Vice Captain Liz's team were victorious again 2.5 pts to 1.5pts.
Pre-Season Club Get Together
13 ladies, unlucky for some, turned out for our pre-season get-together and we were pleased to welcome one of our new members, Kiera. After a bit of info from the Captain on the upcoming season, Linda then presented the Winter league results:
Scratch 1st Linda M 2nd Liz 3rd Agnes
Handicap 1st Lesley 2nd Iris 3rd Donna
Eclectic 1st Pat 2nd Dot 3rd Sheena
Ball winners: Moira L, Michelle, Annette, Helen, Moira C & Noreen
After our chilli or baked tatties, we came to the surprise highlight of the evening (!) - unlucky for the ladies - Bingo! The bingo callers took a bit of stick about their calling abilities but ploughed on regardless 😣

Stonehaven Social Weekend
Last weekend our Pre-Season social weekend took us to Stonehaven. A few of us stopped off en route at windswept Ballumbie for a round of golf. It was interesting playing amongst the houses and watching runaway trolleys!
Then we headed on to Stonie and the fabulous Dalriada Lodges - perfect location, 2 min walk to golf course! Some highlights - Indian meal at clubhouse, golf in horizontal rain and sleet, rainlashed walk into town, meal at The Ship, taxi driver tourist guide, 38-38 draw, dubious Welsh singing, fantastic views from course, Aunty Betty's ice cream and late night drinks & camaraderie. It was all great fun & we're looking forward to doing it all again next year. Thanks to all the Dolls who made it happen😃
