CHILDRENS CHRISTMAS PARTY

The Children's Christmas Party took place on Sunday afternoon. 16 children attended and had a really enjoyable time.  The children were so well behaved that we could not believe how easy it was to entertain them.   Mind you we did have plenty of help from Mr Magic,Santa Claus and the Boy Wizard!

Our thanks to everyone who helped, especially the King Jimmy members who so generously fill up the bottle every year with their spare cash and then buy loads of raffle tickets.

We easily covered our costs.

TURKEY TROT

The Ladies were all looking forward to our Christmas competition on Saturday. Unfortunately, due to adverse weather conditions, the turkey did not trot out of the clubhouse.  However that did not stop us having a good time -  just allowed more time for the mince pies and Marion's magnificent mulled wine!!

We drew for the butcher's vouchers which would have been used as the prizes for the competition.

Congratulations to Anne Smith, Dot Whytock and Moira Lumby who can now buy their Christmas dinner.

Ladies AGM & Prizegiving 2013

The Ladies held their AGM & Prize Giving on Monday 28th October in George Hotel. 14 ladies attended. Numbers were seriously depleted due to a change of date for School Holidays.  Next year the AGM will held at the end of October and hopefully all will be able to attend.

Despite the small gathering the meeting was very positive and everyone enjoyed the meal and get together afterwards.

Notable by their absence were our Club Champion, Fiona Farquharson and Handicap Champion, Liz Angus who are both on holiday.

Sadly Dot didn't fill that enormous trophy she is clutching!!

Charity Donation - Rescued Greyhounds

Our Charity Evening this year was held in support of Greyhound Rescue Fife. This good cause was brought to our attention through Anne & Robin Smith's daughter who is a volunteer at the Kennels.

Dot, Moira and Pat went out to see the kennels at first hand and presented the owners Celia & Jimmie Fernie with a cheque for £70.

Celia & Jimmie look after 48 greyhounds from all over the UK at the kennels. They are all former racing dogs which have retired from racing or younger dogs who were deemed unsuitable for the track.  The Fernies hope to find homes for the dogs but if not they look after them anyway.  They have 9 dogs themselves including Madam, who you can see lounging on the sofa. Madam's pups used to fetch £10,000 each. She deserves a spot of pampering now!

Most of the dogs share a double kennel so they are kept muzzled as a precaution. Greyhounds are very gentle as a rule so as you will see even Dot got up close and personal!

We were treated to a tour of the kennels meeting the honoured guests and seeing all the trophies and racing memorabilia - a real greyhound museum!

For all you dog lovers, especially if you are looking for a well behaved pet, Have a trip out to see the great work they do out there. Be reassured our small donation is going to a good cause. Jimmie showed us a typical monthly vet's bill in excess of £1400.

Final Fling

The Ladies Final Fling on Saturday took on a new dimension this Season. We had one of our Junior Girls, Laura Moon, playing with the Ladies Section for the first time.  Laura played very well and helped to bring in the winning team! We hope Laura will join us next season especially for some of our fun games. Hopefully she will encourage our other girls to join in too.

Congratulations to Moira Lumby, Dot Whytock  and Laura for the magnificent 65. Runners up were Agnes Manattini, Liz Angus and Anne Smith with 70.

The school holidays have caught us on the hop this year with the result that quite a few ladies are unable to attend the AGM on the 28th October.  Since some of the main prize winners will be absent, including the Club Champions, we held a mini Prize Giving after the Final Fling.

Perth & Kinross Handicap League

Our Vice Captain, Moira Lumby, has worked hard this year to establish a Ladies Handicap League for Perth and Kinross Clubs.  From small beginnings it is hoped that the League will go from strength to strength in the coming years. The formats for the matches are 5 singles handicap match play games.  If you know of any club wishing to join the league please get in touch with Moira  – 01821640519 or moira.lumby@btinternet.com

The presentation of the Loch Leven’s Larder trophy was held at King James VI GC on Sunday 6th October. Winners were Dunkeld and Birnam, Murrayshall were runners up.

ISLAND MIXED FOURS

Anne & Robin
Dot & Steve

A merry band of golfers took part in the Island Mixed on Friday evening. Despite a few showers everyone enjoyed the game and some refreshments in the Clubhouse afterwards. We had a good entry with 10 pairs taking part. It is always a good sign after a mixed format to see everyone  on good terms with their partners at the end of play!

Although it was a fun evening, competition was still fierce - the Smiths had a good night! The winners, hot on the heels of their success at the Kings and Queens, were the Dynamic Duo Anne and Robin with a 71. They also walk away with the magnificent  Mr & Mrs Trophies.  Runners up with 71.5 were Dot  Whytock  and Steve who pipped Captain Ian McPhee and his partner Margaret Watson with the better inward half.

Hopefully we can build on the success of the evening and persuade more members to participate next time. It was a great way for the different sections to get together.

Apologies to the Captain's Table who seem to be missing from the Motley Crew below.

LADIES OUTING TO TURNHOUSE

King Jimmy Ladies had their annual golf outing  on Thursday. This year we went to Turnhouse near Edinburgh airport on a reciprocal visit with the Turnhouse Ladies who came to the Island.

We were very lucky with the weather. It was very windy at the top of the hills but the wind served to keep the rain away. We all got in relatively dry with only a brief shower.  We found the contours of the course a challenge but really enjoyable. There were a few blind holes which caused us a problem and resulted in a few lost balls!

A wonderful day was had by all and we send our grateful thanks to Turnhouse for looking after us so well. Special thanks to the gallant gentlemen who greeted us with  'I hope you ladies play as well as you look!'

Congratulations to our prize winners:

Best Silver - Muriel McPherson
Best Bronze - Sheena MacGregor
Hidden Team - Michelle McKay, Linda Mailer and Iris Robertson.

Well done Dorothy - brilliantly organised and the colour coordinated prizes were a master stroke!
