Ladies Christmas Golf & Meal

The 9th of December 2018 will be a day the King Jimmy ladies will remember for a while - all 21 current lady members turned out for our Xmas meal.  There was no cajoling or threats required!

8 ladies donned their Xmas attire for a round of winter golf before retiring to the clubhouse to be joined by the rest of the section to enjoy a hearty Xmas meal provided by Paul & his team.

After we were full up with both food and drink, a little bit of exercise, both of the mind and body, was required.  Out came Pass the Parcel - with a few tweaks !  There was a fair bit of laughter, often at other's expense, at Find the Golf Tee, Pass the M&M's, What's in the Stocking & Wrap a Present.  As the tasks seemed to be getting a little bit harder as each round passed, the last 4 ladies were getting more and more anxious.  But they were lucky as the organiser had run out of ideas, so they only had to unwrap the last parcel and claim the prizes.  Phew !

Ladies AGM & Prizegiving

It was a spooky halloween night for our AGM with a couple of witches hats being thrown around and a few creepy critters on our dining table - but it takes more than that to put us off our food !  A good turnout of the ladies saw a straightforward AGM (thank you ladies !), an expeditious prizegiving (I don't think anyone could do it quicker than Dot!) and a lovely meal prepared by Paul, ably assisted by Ronnie.

Before ! Does anyone know where the camera is ?
After !  Eyes front !

Friendly/Handicap League Matches

 FRIENDLY MATCHES 2018

The ladies had mixed success this year with the Friendly matches, winning 1 and losing 3.  At times it was a struggle to find enough ladies to make up a team as we have such a small membership, but the good news is that Donna agreed to play this year and Noreen has made a return and is happy to be part of a team.  So – anyone else who hasn’t played in this for a while please consider taking part.  It’s good fun and you get your food after!  Thanks Paul.  Also thanks to all of you who took part.  After the winter to practice I’m confident we’ll do better next season in the return matches!

HANDICAP LEAGUE

Unfortunately we didn’t do too well this year in the Handicap League matches, but no-one can say we didn’t try!  It was enjoyable and we were incredibly lucky with the weather.  Thanks to everyone who put their name down – it can be tricky with the times for the working ladies and sometimes it was difficult to make up a team – so – please next season put your name down and join in the fun.  With lots of practice over the winter we’ll be ready for a come-back!
I have put up the result sheet on the notice board in the ladies locker room.

Thanks again to everyone who took part in both Friendlies and Handicap and well done.

Ladies Championship Finals Day

Congratulations to Fiona and Pam, our Scratch and Handicap Champions for 2018.  Commiserations to the runners-up Moira L. and Dot.  Both games were played in great spirits and there was a lot of good golf on show to keep the spectators entertained.  Well done also to the caddies.  Liz and I were quite happy that our rules books stayed in our pockets !

Thanks to Paul and staff for our enjoyable post-match meal in the clubhouse.

Also congratulations were in order for Noreen's birthday today - with a quickly rustled up birthday cake!

Friendly Match at Strathmore

The last of our Friendlies this season was played on 9th August.  This time it was an away match at Strathmore.  Our team of Dot, Donna, Michelle, Agnes, Noreen and Helen tried their best but sadly lost all 3 of their matches.
At least 2 of the matches finished on the 15th which was very convenient for retiring to the clubhouse !

Never mind ladies - there's always next year!  Plenty time to practice and gain more experience from playing other courses.

Outing to Aberdour 5 Aug

What a lovely day we had by the seaside at Aberdour !

15 ladies played in the Tri-am with Annette joining our happy band as on-course photographer for the day.

The course was tricky from the very start.  At the very daunting 1st hole, which turned out to be more tricky for some of us than others,  I'm sure I saw ball-spotters in their kayaks on the Forth.

The views across the Forth were superb - when we didn't have to concentrate on our shots of course.

As none of the King Jimmy ladies featured in the prizelist, it's just as well we had our own little in-house competition.

Karen, Iris & Michelle won the team prize with a score of 150
Linda won nearest the pin on the 7th
Pam won the Endeavour Prize
Fiona won the sweepy (as no one thought she would have had the best individual score !)

A good day was had by all 🏌🍹🥘

Handicap League match v Muckhart 25 July

Our last Handicap League match of the season was played at home against Muckhart.  It was another beautiful warm summer's evening and the course was looking good after such a long dry spell.  We lost 3 of our matches, halved one and won one.  Maybe not the result we were looking for but enjoyable all the same.  However, there's always the return match next year to look forward to and plenty of time to practice! Thanks to our team of Moira L, Karen, Agnes, Noreen and Pat.

Craigisle Match 9 Jul

Friendly match against Craigiehill for the Craigisle trophy took place last Sun at KJVI
Two teams participated and unfortunately we were pipped at the post ,both games going to the 18th green.
A win and a halved match for Craigiehill and so they retain the cup 🏆😢

Thanks to Iris, Alison, Pam and Donna for trying their best.

Handicap League Match at Alyth 21 June

Thursday saw a beautiful summer's evening at Alyth. For myself the longest day took on a whole new meaning as I explored some of the lesser seen areas of the course. Dot won her match but unfortunately the other 4 of us lost, although we all had a good time.  Thanks to Dot, Moira L, Michelle, Agnes and Pat for taking part.  We look forward to doing better in the return match next year.

Ladies Open Tri-am Sun 17 Jun

Another successful Ladies Tri-am was held at King Jimmy's yesterday!

Thankfully the weather stayed dry, just maybe not as warm as we've been used to recently.

The Lady Captain's team were the leaders in the clubhouse for some time (they were out first !).........until the last few of the 12 teams came in !

Congratulations to Agnes Manattini, Donna Nixon & Moira Aitken (Dunning) who came out on top with a score of 129, followed by Dorothy Whytock, Diana Alston & Jean Jasper (both Murrayshall) on 138, and in 3rd place Michelle McKay, Sheena Scott & Sandra Barber (both Strathmore) on 140.

Nearest the Pin was won by Karen Brodie, and Straightest Drive won by Donna Nixon.

Thanks go to all who supported the event including some new visitors from Strathmore, Royal Musselburgh, Swanston, Strathaven & Pumpherston golf clubs.  Hopefully we'll see them again next year.

Thank to those who donated raffle prizes and bought raffle tickets. One of our visitors, Linda Allan from Strathaven, won the golf carry-bag and told me it was exactly what she needed - not often you're lucky enough to get something from a raffle that you actually want/need ! Mind you, she probably hadn't expected to come over with one bag and have to carry two back😅

Thanks also to the greens staff, bar/catering staff, the Junior and his 'not-so junior' assistants (!) for helping ladies with their clubs & Moira C. for her floral decorations.

All-in-all, a good day was had by all👍

Murrayshall Handicap League Match

Sunday afternoon's match ended with a 3-2 home win to us.  On the day Murrayshall were only able to bring 4 ladies so Liz was able to rest her knee rather than play.  Karen and Pat won their matches while Dot and Alison lost, but the overall result was a success for us. The weather held yet again and the day was enjoyed by all. Thank you team!

Saturday 9 June 2018

Friendly Match v Alyth Ladies

The sun shone on Thur, but sadly we didn't. Fiona and Donna blasted their way to glory while Michelle and Iris narrowly lost on the 18th.  Agnes and Pat lost an earlier lead and had to accept defeat. Thanks to all who participated and better luck next time!

Wednesday 23 May 2018

Friendly Match v Perth Ladies

Thanks to Dot, Moira C, Fiona, Donna, Iris and Pat for making up the winning King Jimmy team today against Perth Ladies. An excellent result of 3-0 which hopefully we will be able to repeat when we play the return match next year at the Inch.
The weather was once again excellent and the day was enjoyed by all.

Blairgowrie Handicap League Match

Thanks to Team King Jimmy who turned out for the match last night - Moira L., Liz, Michelle, Alison & Pat.  We all enjoyed our matches, even though the last couple of games were almost playing in the dark!  Unfortunately the result was a win for Blairgowrie 3.5pts to 1.5pts.  But at least it was an improvement on our score the last time we played up there, when we were beaten 4-1.  We're getting better !

First Fling 31 Mar 2018

Twelve ladies took part in a fun Texas Scramble for the First Fling, but sadly the weather got the better of us and it was decided to finish after 8 holes.  The decision to finish early was made all the easier when we discovered Agnes had scored her first hole in one on the 5th, playing with Iris and Alison.  So needless to say, a big celebration was in order! The Easter Eggs were won by Liz, Dot and Pam but the big focus was on Agnes's achievement, much to everyone's delight.  Hopefully the weather will improve for us next time we play, but it didn't stop us having fun today.

Opening Day Sat 24 Mar

What a glorious day we had for Captain v Vice Captain. Of course, it wouldn't be a ladies organised golf day without it being eventful !

Firstly we were going to have 2 Lady/Junior combos at the end of our match but unfortunately 2 Juniors pulled out which meant Alison & Iris were left to play in a twosome (I doubt the Juniors must have heard about them !).

Then one of our ladies dropped out but Super-Sub Helen stepped into the breach - and played a blinder (or was that blind drunk  - due to underhand tactics of Vice Captains side!).

Finally before we could get off the tee, we had padlock-gate and trolley-gate - needless to say, it was all very entertaining and you couldn't make it up !

Certainly a day to remember..........just a pity some people couldn't remember what their trolleys looked like or where they'd left them 😜

After all that, the result seemed an anticlimax after all the earlier shenanigans, I was delighted 😬 to announce the Vice Captain's Team was victorious, winning 2½pts to the Captain's Teams' 1½pts.

Pre-season Get Together

The Captain welcomed 14 ladies to the first get together of the new season.  Despite a bit of heckling she eventually made it through her opening speech..

Linda handed out the winter league prizes - everybody that had played got a prize, either a sh***y one, a golf ball or, for the lucky ones, hard cash !

After our stovies and nachos, Linda gave some information about handicap changes then we got to the serious part of the evening - the beetle drive!

It's quite a simple game, but,by all accounts, the Captain obviously didn't give a sufficient explanation of the rules - enough said 😬 All I can say is that the beetle impressions in the photo were an improvement on some of the drawn versions.
What a load of beetles !

Winter Walk 2018

6 intrepid lady golfers went for a wee dawdle yesterday morning, starting off from Broxden, up to Mailer Hill, down towards Craigie area then up by Buckie Braes and back to Broxden.  Thanks to Sheena for suggesting the route. We came across something you don't very often see on countryside walks --- a lone piper (photo below to prove it).
After our walk, we met up with Pam and Margaret W. at the Cherrybank Inn for a lovely lunch - just a pity it wasn't warm enough to sit outside!

Cheque Presentation

The proceeds from the Gin Tasting were officially handed over today after the final winter Texas Scramble. It wasn't a blank cheque - honest! (just not a very thick marker pen).

Gin Tasting Day 3rd Feb

Alison was a bit nervous beforehand, hoping the day was going to turn out ok – she didn’t need to worry, put a good smattering of ladies (and a few gents)  together with some gin and she had nothing to worry about !

Of course, it’s all down to the preparation and planning and the gin team had it down to a (G&) T.  It wouldn’t have happened without Alison’s idea and her merry (hic!) band of assistants namely Linda, Liz & Pam to get this show on the road.

The ladies, as usual, gave their full support to the day, whether it be infusing gins, donating tombola prizes, providing garnishes, using their creative skills for signs, table decorations and tombola basket covers, harassing sponsors for donations and of course, consuming a fair few G&T’s.

It was a hugely successful day raising over £1500 for club funds. Don’t know how we’re going to top this one !
